1979 signed Robert Freidus Gallery Larry Clark Tulsa poster
1979. Robert Freidus Gallery, NYC. Larry Clark’s opus ‘Tulsa’. Clark’s work focuses primarily on youth who casually engage in illegal drug use, underage sex, and violence, and who are part of a specific subculture, such as surfing, punk rock, or skateboarding.
This poster features Clark’s photograph of Billy Mann with a gun. This photograph was also the cover image for Clark’s book, TULSA which captures the lives of Tulsa’s youth. Clark was both participant and photographer in this body of work, often living, sleeping and taking drugs with some of his subjects. Clark said, “I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1943. When I was sixteen I started shooting amphetamine. I shot with my friends everyday for three years and then left town but I’ve gone back through the years. Once the needle goes in it never comes out.”
